A bystander spotted a fire that engulfed a shed and spread to a vacant home in Fox Lake, which occurred directly across the street from a fire station, officials said.

The Fox Lake Fire Protection District responded around 7:42 p.m. Tuesday to the 300 block of Washington Street in Fox Lake for a report of a structure fire.

Fox Lake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Ted Damos said a bystander at the park across the street saw the fire and called 911.

Firefighters arrived quickly due to the fire occurring directly across the street from Fire Station #2.

They found a fully involved shed fire with the fire extending to the siding of the house, Damos said.

Firefighters quickly began extinguishing the fire and prevented the blaze from entering the home.

Damos said no one was inside the residence, which was vacant, at the time of the fire.

No injuries were reported and the incident was handled without any issues, Damos said, adding that the fire was under control within 15 minutes.

The Lake Villa, Spring Grove, Wauconda and Antioch fire departments assisted at the scene.

While the small shed was damaged, the residence remains habitable.

A board-up company responded to secure a door and window that were broken down, Damos said.

A damage estimate for the fire was not immediately available.
