A woman was hospitalized after she was shot by a gunman who was arrested by responding officers at an apartment building in Waukegan Wednesday morning.
The Waukegan Police Department responded around 1:19 a.m. Wednesday to the 2700 block of West Glen Flora Avenue for a report of shots fired.
911 callers reported hearing shots fired on the seventh floor of Cinnamon Lake Towers.
Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Scott Chastain said officers arrived and found a woman shot in the stomach.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Dino Katris said that officers heard gunshots actively being fired when they were approaching the scene.
The Waukegan Fire Department responded and transported the victim to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Chastain said the woman underwent surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.
The male suspect exited the apartment and was taken into custody by officers.
The victim identified the suspect as the person who shot her, Katris said.
A search warrant was obtained for the apartment and it was processed by evidence technicians, Chastain said.
