A man was seriously injured and flown to the hospital following a rollover crash involving a semi-truck that left him trapped inside his car on Route 14 near Woodstock Monday morning.

The Harvard Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 10 a.m. Monday to the area of Route 14 and Bunker Hill Road in unincorporated Woodstock for a vehicle crash with entrapment.

Harvard Fire Protection District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said fire crews were en route when they were advised that law enforcement had arrived and found one of the drivers was conscious but trapped inside his vehicle.

Firefighters and paramedics found a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle.

Heavy damage was reported in the crash, which occurred approximately a half mile north of the intersection on Route 14.

The passenger vehicle had overturned and came to rest on its roof, leaving the adult male driver trapped inside, Vucha said.

A Flight For Life medical helicopter out of Wisconsin was requested to the scene due to the severity of his injuries.

Firefighters worked to extricate the victim. It took around 30 minutes to free him as temperatures climbed into the 90s, Vucha said.

The driver, who suffered serious injuries, was transferred to the awaiting helicopter and airlifted to Javon Bea Hospital — Riverside in Rockford for treatment.

The driver of the semi-truck, also an adult male, was evaluated at the scene and transported by ambulance to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Vucha said the semi-truck was not hauling a trailer at the time of the crash and no additional hazards were found.

Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles.

Route 14 was shut down in both directions from Bunker Hill Road to Lembcke Road for over three hours while emergency crews operated at the scene.
