A large fire department search is underway at a pond at a forest preserve in Long Grove Tuesday evening amid a search for a missing person from Arlington Heights.

The Arlington Heights Police Department said they are seeking the public’s assistance in locating Adam Gerber.

Gerber is 54 years old and described as having dark brown hair and brown eyes.

He was last seen around 11:20 p.m. Monday near Arlington Heights Road and Lake Cook Road in Buffalo Grove.

Gerber’s vehicle was also located near the intersection, police said.

Amid the search, the Long Grove Fire Department responded around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday to Buffalo Creek Forest Preserve, 18163 Checker Road in Long Grove, to search a pond.

The pond is located on the west side of Arlington Heights Road just south of Checker Drive and connects to Buffalo Creek.

The fire department activated the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) to the box alarm level.

The activation brought a large number of fire department divers, sonar equipment and specialized resources to the scene from Lake and Cook counties.

The responding fire departments included Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Buffalo Grove, Elk Grove Village, Mount Prospect, Countryside, Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Arlington Heights, Barrington, Streamwood, Palatine, Northfield, Fox Lake, Antioch, Newport, Lake Zurich, Libertyville, Lake Forest, Grayslake, Wauconda, Round Lake, Lake Villa and Mundelein.

Authorities have not provided further details on the search of the pond, which was described as a “recovery effort,” but as of 6 p.m., the fire departments had not found anyone in the water.
