No injuries were reported after a townhome fire broke out, sending flames from the second floor and leaving the residents homeless, in McHenry Wednesday evening.
The McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 10 p.m. Wednesday to the 1900 block of Concord Drive in McHenry for a report of a structure fire.
Police officers arrived first and began assisting with evacuations after they found an active fire.
McHenry Township Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Ryan Mastandrea said firefighters arrived in six minutes and found a three-story townhome with flames showing from the second floor.
Mastandrea said it was not known initially if the residents were out of the townhome but the units were being evacuated.
The incident was upgraded to bring additional fire departments to the scene and to cover McHenry fire stations.
Firefighters began an offensive attack on the fire by deploying hose lines through the garage while also searching for anyone trapped inside.
It was determined that all residents had evacuated prior to the fire department’s arrival.
The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. No residents or firefighters were injured.
The home was deemed uninhabitable. The cause of the fire is under investigation and a damage estimate was not immediately available.
The Nunda Rural, Round Lake, Wauconda and Wonder Lake fire departments assisted at the scene.
The Cary, Crystal Lake, Fox Lake, Spring Grove and Woodstock fire departments covered McHenry fire stations during the incident.
