No injuries were reported after a garbage truck caught on fire while it was traveling in a neighborhood in Volo Friday morning, fire officials said.
The Fox Lake Fire Protection District responded around 10 a.m. Friday to the area of Wentworth Drive and Alta Drive in Volo for a vehicle fire.
Fire crews arrived on the scene and found a Flood Brothers garbage truck on fire.
Firefighters began pulling a hose line to extinguish the fire, which was completed in approximately five minutes. No explosions were reported.
Fire officials said the truck driver had been driving in the neighborhood when he noticed the truck was on fire and saw flames toward the front end of the vehicle.
The driver stopped the truck, evacuated and called 911. He was uninjured.
The fire originated near the engine compartment of the garbage truck and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
A heavy wrecker tow truck was called to the scene to remove the garbage truck.
