The Mariano’s in Buffalo Grove is among two other Chicagoland supermarket locations being permanently closed by Kroger as part of nationwide closures.
Kroger said it is closing Mariano’s stores at 450 West Half Day Road in Buffalo Grove, 2323 Capital Drive in Glenview and 144 South Gary Avenue in Bloomingdale later this summer.
The Buffalo Grove Mariano’s will close on August 8, the Glenview Mariano’s will close on August 22 and the Bloomingdale Mariano’s will close on August 15.
“This closure is part of a larger company-wide decision to run more efficiently and ensure the long-term health of our business,” a spokesperson for the company said.
Employees at the three locations will be offered the option to transfer to a different location.
The Mariano’s in Buffalo Grove opened in 2014 in the building where Dominick’s had previously been before it was shuttered.
Kroger announced last week that it plans to close approximately 60 stores over the next 18 months.
“As a result of these store closures, Kroger expects a modest financial benefit. Kroger is committed to reinvesting these savings back into the customer experience, and as a result, this will not impact full-year guidance,” the company said in its first quarter disclosure.
Kroger operates more than 2,700 grocery stores in the United States.
It is the largest supermarket operator in the United States based on revenue.
The company employs approximately 420,000 people and serves 11 million customers each day.
Kroger Chairman and CEO Ron Sargent said that Kroger delivered “solid first quarter results, with strong sales led by pharmacy, eCommerce and fresh.”
“We made good progress in streamlining our priorities, enhancing customer focus, and running great stores to improve the shopping experience,” Sargent said.
