A roofing employee received critical injuries Thursday after falling from a roof in unincorporated McHenry County near Huntley, officials said.

Battalion Chief Michael Pierce of the Huntley Fire Protection District said emergency personnel were dispatched to the 15000 block of Lerita Drive at 7:50 a.m. early Thursday morning for a subject who had fallen from a roof.

First arriving units found a male patient who had sustained critical injuries after falling off the second-story roof, Pierce said.

Pierce added that the person was an employee of a roofing crew working at that location.

After the initial assessment, a medical helicopter was requested to transport the subject, Pierce said.

Crews utilized the helipad at Northwestern Huntley Hospital to transfer care to the REACT Medical Helicopter, Pierce said.

The patient was then flown to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford for further treatment.
