Round Lake Beach Police are seeking help from the public in identifying a vehicle involved in a hit and run that left one person with non-life-threatening injuries Saturday evening, police officials said.
Round Lake Beach Deputy Police Chief Tim Schuster said police were called to the 1200 block of Lotus Drive late Saturday for a man who was injured after confronting a couple of illegal street racers in front of his house at 8:45 p.m. Saturday.
Schuster said a red Chevy pick-up truck with a black hood and a white Dodge Charger were reportedly racing on the roadway, prompting a 57-year-old resident to come out and confront the pick-up truck driver.
He said the resident was standing in the roadway and yelling at the driver from behind the pick-up truck when the truck driver put the vehicle into reverse and drove at the resident.
The truck first missed the resident, Schuster said, but kept backing up, hitting the resident with either the driver’s side mirror or the front of the vehicle.
The resident was thrown to the ground, Schuster said, and the truck continued reversing away from the scene.
Residents in the area captured video of the incident and noticed the truck did not have a front license plate. That video has made its way to social media, Schuster said.
The pick-up truck fled the area shortly after the video ends, Schuster said.
The victim declined medical assistance at the scene but later went to a nearby hospital due to a knee and foot injury, Schuster said.
Schuster said anyone with information about the Chevy pick-up, the Dodge Charger, or who has video of the incident, is urged to contact the Round Lake Beach Police Department at (847) 270-9111.
