Residents were displaced after flames quickly engulfed a new construction house, leaving it a total loss, and damaging two other adjacent homes in Lindenhurst Tuesday morning.
The Lake Villa Fire Protection District responded around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday to the 800 block of Summer Lane in Lindenhurst for a report of a structure fire.
Lake Villa Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Kevin Johnson said the initial call indicated a garage fire. Heavy black smoke could be seen billowing into the sky.
Fire crews arrived to find heavy fire conditions in a single-family residence, which was well involved in flames, Johnson said.
Fire crews also noted that both adjacent homes to the fire building were at risk of catching on fire.
The incident was upgraded and the Grayslake, Round Lake, Fox Lake, Antioch and Newport fire departments responded to the scene to assist. The Gurnee and Libertyville fire departments covered Lake Villa’s fire station.
Johnson said firefighters used two master streams, which produce a high volume of water, to knock down the fire.
Two hose lines were also pulled to extinguish fire in hard-to-reach areas.
The main body of the fire was brought under control in 30 minutes from when firefighters arrived, Johnson said.
Fire crews remained at the scene for approximately two and a half hours.
A female resident and a pet were home at the time of the fire and were able to safely evacuate.
Johnson said no injuries were reported to the resident, pet or firefighters.
The house was left with significant damage and is a total loss with the residents, who recently moved into the new construction home, being displaced.
The two homes adjacent to the involved home were also damaged.
One of those homes sustained minor damage to the siding while the other home sustained moderate siding damage, Johnson said. The fire did not spread into either of the two adjacent homes.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known and remains under investigation by the Lake Villa Fire Protection District.
