The Major Crime Task Force is investigating after a 19-year-old man died after he was shot while inside a home in North Chicago Saturday morning.
The North Chicago Police Department and North Chicago Fire Department responded around 1:05 a.m. Saturday to the 2200 block of Kemble Avenue in North Chicago for a report of a shooting.
Fire department radio traffic indicated a victim had been shot while upstairs in a home.
Police officers arrived and found the victim was unconscious and barely breathing.
They began performing lifesaving measures, including CPR, on the victim who reportedly had been shot in the chest.
An ambulance transported the victim to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, which is a Level 1 trauma center.
The victim was pronounced dead in the emergency room just after 2 a.m., according to Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton.
Newton said the victim was a 19-year-old man who resided in North Chicago.
An autopsy was scheduled to be performed on the man on Monday morning.
A second ambulance was dispatched to the scene to treat a person who was in shock. The ambulance transported them to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.
The Lake County Major Crime Task Force was called to the scene to assist the North Chicago Police Department with the investigation.
The North Chicago Police Department has not yet released information on the homicide, while the Major Crime Task Force said they expect to release details later on Monday.
The shooting marks the ninth homicide in Lake County in 2025 and the second homicide in North Chicago this year, according to county data.
