Police are investigating and warning residents after they responded to numerous car burglaries and two stolen vehicles during overnight hours in Libertyville neighborhoods.
The Libertyville Police Department responded in the early morning hours on Friday to several reports of vehicle burglaries.
The incidents occurred in the 500 block of Hampton Terrace, 600 block of Downing Place, 700 block of Seventh Avenue, 800 block of Liberty Bell Lane, 600 block of Valley Park Drive and 1000 block of Michaels Lane.
At least seven burglary-to-motor vehicle incidents were reported in the early morning hours, Libertyville Police Department Sgt. Dusan Racic said Tuesday.
Officers located vehicles that had been entered and rummaged through.
The suspects stole personal items, including purses and debit or credit cards, in some of the incidents.
Racic said two vehicles were reported stolen but were later located a short distance from the residences after being abandoned.
The majority of vehicles appeared to have been entered and rummaged through without anything being stolen.
All of the vehicles involved were left unlocked by their owners, Racic said. No suspects have been apprehended yet.
The Libertyville Police Department said it encourages residents to remain vigilant.
“Please remember to lock your vehicles, remove valuables, and never leave keys or key fobs inside unattended cars,” Racic said.
Residents are also reminded to secure garage doors and entryways to their homes, especially during overnight hours.
Anyone with surveillance footage or additional information related to the crimes is asked to contact the Libertyville Police Department Investigations Division at 847-362-8310.
