One person was injured and transported to the hospital after a fire broke out in a home in Waukegan and left the residents displaced Saturday evening, fire officials said.
The Waukegan Fire Department and Gurnee Fire Department responded around 5 p.m. Saturday to the 1600 block of Frazier Street in Waukegan for a report of a structure fire.
Waukegan Fire Department Battalion Chief of Administration Todd Zupec said firefighters arrived and found smoke coming from a single-family home.
They found an active fire inside of the residence and began working to extinguish it.
All occupants of the home had self-evacuated prior to the fire department’s arrival, Zupec said.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within 10 minutes and contain it mostly to one of the bedrooms.
Zupec said an occupant suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
No injuries were reported to any firefighters, who remained at the scene for 45 minutes to overhaul and ventilate the smoke from the home.
The residence was deemed uninhabitable and the residents were left displaced due to the damage, Zupec said.
A preliminary investigation showed the cause of the fire was accidental in nature.
Damage was estimated at approximately $40,000.
