Police have arrested three Cook County residents after they allegedly committed an armed home invasion in Riverwoods Sunday evening and held the resident at bay while stealing valuables.
The Riverwoods Police Department responded around 11:05 p.m. Sunday to a residence in the area of Blackthorn Road and Greenbriar Lane for a report of a robbery.
Riverwoods Chief of Police Bruce Dayno said a preliminary investigation showed three suspects entered the victim’s home.
They held the resident “at bay” while removing various valuables, Dayno said.
The victim was able to flee at some point during the incident and ran to a neighbor’s home, at which time the police were notified.
A subsequent investigation led to the identification and apprehension of the three suspects.
“This incident appears to be targeted towards this specific resident, and there is no further threat to the general public,” Dayno said Wednesday.
All three suspects have been charged with two counts of home invasion, a Class X felony, and additional charges are expected following a further investigation.
Court records show that the suspects were charged with possessing a firearm in the commission of the crime and discharging it.
The police chief declined to provide further information on the incident, citing an “active investigation.” The resident was uninjured in the incident.
The suspects taken into custody were Keshaun R. Handcox, 19, of Chicago; Aaliyah L. Baker, 20, of Calumet Park; and Joshua M. Mitchell, 29, of Chicago.
Handcox and Baker were transported to the Lake County Jail on Tuesday and appeared in First Appearance Court on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office filed petitions to detain the suspects pending trial, calling them a real and present danger to the community.
Mitchell remains in police custody and will be transported to the Lake County Jail “in the near future,” Dayno said.
Baker and Handcox are scheduled to appear for detention hearings on Wednesday afternoon.
