A 25-year-old man from Round Lake Beach has died from his injuries after police say he ran a red light and crashed his motorcycle into an SUV in Chicago.

The Chicago Police Department and Chicago Fire Department responded around 7:50 p.m. on June 17 to the area of Cicero Avenue and Washington Boulevard for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Police officials said a Suzuki motorcycle, driven by a 25-year-old man, was traveling southbound in the 100 block of North Cicero Avenue.

The Suzuki disregarded a red light at the intersection and continued southbound.

The Suzuki struck a Ford Edge, which was attempting to make a left turn, police officials said.

The driver of the Suzuki was transported by ambulance to Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago in critical condition.

The driver of the Ford Edge, a 31-year-old woman, was transported to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park for neck pain.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said the driver of the Suzuki, identified as Nelson Marrero Jr., 25, of Round Lake Beach, remained hospitalized over the past month.

Marrero Jr. was pronounced dead in the hospital on Thursday, nearly a month after the crash, the medical examiner’s office said. No other injuries were reported in the crash.

A funeral visitation is scheduled for 3-7 p.m. on Saturday at Alvarez Funeral Directors in Chicago.
