The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District and Lake in the Hills Police Department responded around 6:30 p.m. Thursday to the 100 block of Hilltop Drive in Lake in the Hills for a report of a traumatic injury call.

Police officers arrived and reported finding two people injured, one of whom was unconscious.

Lake in the Hills Police Department Sgt. Chad Riffe said a 17-year-old girl from Lake in the Hills and a 19-year-old Carpentersville man were riding electric scooters.

The two were traveling on the roadway in the 100 block of Hilltop Drive.

The girl lost control of her scooter, causing her to fall and suffer severe injuries, Riffe said. It is unclear what caused her to lose control.

The man also lost control of his scooter while attempting to avoid the girl, which left him with minor injuries, Riffe said.

Two ambulances were dispatched to the scene and both victims were transported to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley.

Riffe did not provide the girl’s current condition and he deferred comment to Northwestern Medicine.

A spokesperson for the hospital system said it was unable to provide the victim’s condition because she is a minor.
