Police are investigating after a man in his 40s was left seriously injured following a stabbing, with officers rendering lifesaving measures to him in North Chicago.

The North Chicago Fire Department and North Chicago Police Department responded around 2:35 a.m. Saturday to the 1400 block of Hervey Avenue for a report of a stabbing.

North Chicago Assistant Police Chief Gary Lunn said officers arrived and found a male victim who had been stabbed.

The 41-year-old man had suffered a puncture wound to his torso.

Officers began performing lifesaving measures on the victim until the fire department arrived, Lunn said.

His injuries were initially considered serious but Lunn said he did not have an update on his condition as of Wednesday.

Paramedics transported him to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Lunn said no suspect information is available and it is unknown whether the victim knew the suspect or not.

Further information, including whether the incident occurred inside or outside of the home, was not available.

No one is in custody and the incident remains under investigation by detectives with the North Chicago Police Department.
