A drunk driver crashed into two vehicles before crashing through the Moose Lodge in Wauconda, causing significant damage, while she had her child in the car, police said.

The Wauconda Fire District and Wauconda Police Department responded around 6:30 p.m. Thursday to the Wauconda Moose Lodge, 200 South Maple Avenue, for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Wauconda Police Department Public Information Officer Heather Cognac said officers arrived and found a three-vehicle crash with one car into the building.

A preliminary investigation showed that Jamie Spratt, 47, of Wauconda, was the driver of a white Lincoln Navigator.

Spratt was reversing from a parking space in the municipal lot when she reported that her gas pedal became stuck, Cognac said.

The Lincoln struck a black Jeep Renegade and then hit a white Honda Crosstour, which were both parked and unoccupied.

The Lincoln continued backward and crashed through the north side of the Moose Lodge, Cognac said.

The building sustained significant structural damage and the fire department had to shore up the structure to ensure its stability.

A woman inside the Moose Lodge suffered minor injuries but declined transport to the hospital.

Spratt’s 13-year-old daughter was seated in the front passenger seat and was also uninjured.

Cognac said officers suspected Spratt of being under the influence of alcohol and an investigation showed she had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.185, which is more than twice the legal limit.

She was charged with two counts of driving under the influence, reckless driving, illegal transportation of alcohol, improper backing, driving an uninsured vehicle and two counts of child endangerment.

“Driving under the influence is a serious and dangerous crime that puts lives at risk. We are extremely fortunate no one was seriously hurt in this incident,” Wauconda Police Chief David Wermes said.
