The sheriff is investigating after a man was shot in the face during a possible car theft attempt on the border of Long Grove and Arlington Heights Friday morning.
The Long Grove Fire Protection District and Cook County Sheriff’s Office responded around 3:20 a.m. Friday to the 3900 block of Galesburg Avenue in an unincorporated area south of Long Grove and north of Arlington Heights for a report of a shooting.
Sheriff’s police officers received a 911 call for a person shot in the face at a residence, according to the sheriff’s office.
Officers arrived and located the male victim who had been shot and initiated lifesaving measures.
The victim was transported by ambulance to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, which is a Level 1 trauma center.
Extra fire department personnel were on board in the ambulance due to the severity of the man’s injuries.
The sheriff’s office said the victim’s condition is currently unknown.
Sheriff’s police detectives were at the scene along with crime scene investigators for hours throughout the morning on Friday.
Multiple shell casings were seen adjacent to evidence markers on the ground next to the home’s mailbox.
A white Chevrolet Corvette, which was parked in the driveway, had its driver’s side door ajar and its window broken.
Neighbors said that the incident began as an attempted auto theft of the Chevrolet and the homeowner interrupted the suspect or suspects, leading to them shooting him.
The Arlington Heights Police Department on Tuesday issued a community alert to its residents saying it has received four reports of stolen vehicles and five reports of vehicles being damaged in the commission of an attempted theft.
