A Volo woman is in critical condition after the sheriff says she ran a red light and caused a two-vehicle crash that left three others injured on Route 60 near Grayslake Sunday morning.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 7 a.m. Sunday to Route 60 and Fairfield Road in unincorporated Grayslake for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived and located two vehicles with heavy damage.
A preliminary investigation shows a Volkswagen Atlas, driven by a 32-year-old Volo woman, was traveling eastbound on Route 60, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.
Witnesses reported the Volkswagen failed to stop at a red light as it approached Fairfield Road.
The Volkswagen struck a southbound Nissan Pathfinder, driven by a 42-year-old Round Lake woman, in the intersection.
The impact of the crash caused the vehicles to then strike a traffic light pole.
The driver of the Volkswagen was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Nissan and two passengers in the Nissan were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
