The coroner has released the identity of a Hainesville woman who died after a two-vehicle crash that completely shut down a busy intersection in Antioch Saturday afternoon.

An autopsy performed Monday showed that Elaine Weamer, 78, of Hainesville, died as a result of blunt force injuries from a vehicle crash, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.

The Antioch Police Department and Antioch Fire Department responded around 3 p.m. Saturday to the area of Route 83 and Route 173 for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Antioch Deputy Police Chief Chuck Smith said officers arrived and found a two-vehicle crash in the intersection.

A preliminary investigation shows that a gray 2008 Honda, driven by a 17-year-old Antioch resident, was traveling southbound on Route 83, also known as Main Street.

A silver 2007 Hyundai, driven by a 59-year-old Hainesville resident, was traveling northbound on Route 83 through the intersection, Smith said.

The Honda attempted to turn eastbound onto Route 173 and entered the path of the Hyundai, resulting in a collision.

The driver of the Hyundai had their 78-year-old parent, later identified as Weamer, in the passenger seat. Weamer suffered critical injuries.

Smith said the Antioch Fire Department provided medical care and transported all three people involved to an area hospital.

Weamer died in the emergency room at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Banek said.

The Antioch Police Department requested the assistance of the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) to investigate the crash.

The intersection of Route 83 and Route 173 was completely shut down for several hours.

Smith said the crash is still under investigation to determine who was at fault and the police department is not yet releasing the names of those involved.

“Our hearts are with the families impacted by this heartbreaking event. Moments like this remind us how important it is to slow down and approach every intersection with care. No matter how busy life gets, safety should always come first,” Antioch Police Chief Geoffrey Guttschow said.
