One person was hospitalized after state police say a vehicle drove in the opposite direction on Interstate 90 near Marengo and caused a head-on crash Sunday morning.
The Illinois State Police (ISP), Hampshire Fire Protection District and Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts responded around 2:23 a.m. Sunday to Interstate 90 at the 36-mile marker south of Marengo.
Troopers arrived to find a two-vehicle crash in the westbound lanes at the exit to Route 23.
Multiple ambulances were called to the scene and a medical helicopter was placed on standby.
A preliminary investigation showed a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 90.
A Cadillac ST5 was traveling westbound and was struck head-on by the Chevrolet, ISP said.
The driver of the Chevrolet, a 33-year-old Elgin man, suffered injuries and was transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
The driver of the Cadillac, a 60-year-old Genoa man, was uninjured and declined transport to the hospital.
ISP has not said whether charges or citations will be issued in the incident.
