Police say attempted murder charges have been filed against a suspect accused of shooting and critically injuring a man in his 20s at Frank’s Lounge in North Chicago last week.

The North Chicago Police Department and North Chicago Fire Department responded around 12:50 a.m. last Monday to Frank’s Lounge, 2234 Green Bay Road, for a report of a shooting.

Officers arrived and found a 27-year-old man who had been shot in the chest, police officials said.

Officers began lifesaving measures before the North Chicago Fire Department arrived and took over care.

An ambulance transported the victim to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Police officials said the victim was last reported to be in critical condition.

The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived in a black SUV.

A vehicle matching the description was found crashed on Green Bay Road in Waukegan several minutes after the shooting.

A man, who was reported to be a suspect in the case, arrived at a hospital in Kenosha County, Wisconsin, a short time later with a gunshot wound.

Police officials say they believe the incident was a targeted shooting.

A major police response was brought to the scene, including the Wheeling Police Department, Illinois State Police and Lake County Sheriff’s Office — among many others — to help manage the chaotic crowd following the shooting.

The North Chicago Police Department said they were working with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office to obtain criminal charges against those involved.

Police officials told Lake and McHenry County Scanner on Monday that the suspect has been charged in connection with the incident.

Court records show the suspect, identified as Walter J. Brown, 28, of Waukegan, was charged with attempted first-degree murder, a Class X felony, and aggravated battery by discharge of a firearm, a Class X felony.

Brown has since been released from the hospital and is being held in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, Jail.

He has waived the extradition process and is currently awaiting transfer back to Lake County, court records show.
