Police officers arrested a home invasion suspect after they say he forced his way into a stranger’s apartment in McHenry where he bit the resident, who restrained him Thursday morning.
The McHenry Police Department responded around 6:48 a.m. Thursday to the Garden Quarter Apartments in the 4500 block of Garden Quarter Road in McHenry.
McHenry Police Department Public Affairs Officer Ashley O’Herron said an offender was attempting to gain entry into various apartments.
The suspect followed a victim to his apartment, pushed passed the victim and into the apartment.
The victim and the suspect engaged in a physical fight and the suspect bit the victim, O’Herron said.
The victim suffered a cut to the finger that required stitches. The victim was able to restrain the offender until police arrived.
Officers arrested the suspect, identified as Aleksandar Visnjic, 31, of McHenry.
Visnjic suffered an injury to the mouth. O’Herron said it is unknown whether the physical fight caused it or if it was from biting the victim.
Court documents said Visnjic jumped on a stranger’s vehicle until police arrived.
He ran to the victim when officers arrived and pushed the resident into their own apartment and entered without permission before the physical altercation began, court documents said.
Visnjic was transported to the hospital after being arrested and later transferred to the McHenry County Jail.
He was charged with home invasion causing injury, a Class X felony; battery, a Class A misdemeanor; and disorderly conduct, a Class C misdemeanor.
The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain Visnjic pending trial and McHenry County Judge Cynthia Lamb granted the request.
The judge said no conditions could mitigate the threat Visnjic poses to the community.
“This defendant pushed his way into the apartment of someone who he did not know, and began hurting that alleged victim, who this defendant did not know, that victim required medical intervention,” Lamb said in her ruling.
Visnjic remains held in the McHenry County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court again on Friday for a status of attorney hearing.
