Four people were hospitalized after they were injured in a two-vehicle crash that caused heavy damage and left one car rolled over along Route 176 in McHenry County Monday afternoon.
The Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts and Union Fire Protection District responded around 4:11 p.m. Monday to the intersection of Route 176 and North Union Road in Seneca Township, located east of Marengo and north of Union, for a report of a vehicle crash with entrapment.
Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said crews arrived a short time later and located a two-vehicle crash in the intersection.
One vehicle had rolled over following the collision and was on its roof just north of the intersection off the roadway.
The other vehicle came to a stop in a nearby farm field, Vucha said.
Both vehicles had sustained heavy damage but no one required extrication from the wreckage.
The incident was upgraded to a Working EMS Plan, prompting the response of additional ambulances from Marengo, Woodstock, Huntley and Hampshire, due to the number of victims involved.
Vucha said a total of four victims were transported to local hospitals with minor to moderate injuries. None were believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
Vucha said that a second crash occurred at the intersection of Grant Highway and State Street in Marengo involving a semi-truck and a sedan while fire crews were still at the scene of the first crash.
The Hampshire ambulance responding to the initial crash was diverted to the second incident.
Three people were evaluated at the scene but declined further medical treatment or transport to the hospital.
“We thank all the responding agencies and their personnel for their assistance, as well as our dispatchers for coordinating resources during both incidents,” Vucha said.
The Crystal Lake and Woodstock fire districts also assisted in providing coverage for additional calls.
