A suspect is in custody after authorities say he stabbed his father multiple times, requiring him to undergo emergency surgery, outside a home in Park City Thursday morning.

The Gurnee Fire Department and Park City Police Department responded around 7:30 a.m. Thursday to the 500 block of Main Street in Park City for a report of a stabbing.

Officers arrived and found a man who had been stabbed, according to Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Vukovich.

Officers saw the suspect crouched down by the victim, who was outside.

Vukovich said the victim was face down in a pool of blood. A knife with blood on it was next to the victim.

The suspect was uninjured and had blood covering his hands. He was taken into custody.

Officers began lifesaving measures on the male victim. Vukovich said they turned him onto his back and saw he had multiple stab wounds that were bleeding.

Paramedics arrived and rushed the victim to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

He underwent emergency surgery and doctors told police that the victim had been stabbed three times in the neck area, as well as the chest and heart area.

Officers spoke with a witness who said she heard yelling and saw the victim and the suspect standing outside, Vukovich said.

She then saw the suspect stab the victim in the chest area, causing the victim to collapse to the ground.

Vukovich said the victim was unconscious and in a pool of blood.

The witness then saw the suspect kneel down and put his hand on the back of the victim’s head before stabbing him in the neck.

The suspect, a 27-year-old man who was transported to the Lake County Jail, has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated domestic battery. He is the victim’s son.
