A child was uninjured after she was riding a bicycle crossing the street from the sidewalk when she was struck by a police squad car in Barrington Monday afternoon.
The Barrington Police Department and Barrington Fire Department responded around 3:20 p.m. Monday to the area of Hough Street and Russell Street for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Barrington Police Chief David Daigle said a teenage Barrington girl, approximately 15 years old, was riding her bicycle.
The child was riding the bicycle northbound on the sidewalk along the west side of South Hough Street.
A Barrington Hills Police Department squad car, driven by a male officer in his mid-50s, was stopped at the stop sign eastbound on Russell Street at the intersection of Hough Street, Daigle said.
He was waiting to turn right onto southbound Hough Street.
Another motorist, who did not have a stop sign, stopped on Hough Street to allow the Barrington Hills police car to enter southbound traffic, Daigle said.
The squad car began to turn when the bicyclist left the sidewalk, attempting to cross the street in front of the squad.
Daigle said the front of the squad car struck the left side of the bicyclist.
The officer was not responding to a call at the time of the incident and was driving through the area to follow up on an investigation.
The bicyclist was uninjured and no citations have been issued.
