Multiple people were hospitalized after they were found shot in a car in Algonquin following a shooting that occurred in a residential area in Carpentersville Wednesday evening.
The Algonquin Police Department, Carpentersville Fire Department and Carpentersville Police Department responded around 11:28 p.m. Wednesday to the area of Randall Road and Longmeadow Parkway in Algonquin for shooting victims.
Police located a vehicle that had multiple gunshot victims inside, south of the intersection.
Fire department personnel arrived and requested three ambulances to respond.
One victim was reported to be shot in the head and another was reported to be shot in the chest, according to emergency radio traffic.
The Algonquin Police Department said Randall Road was shut down in both directions between Longmeadow Parkway and Broadsmore Drive due to the incident.
Police asked motorists to avoid Randall Road and Broadsmore Drive as well as Randall Road and Longmeadow Parkway.
Motorists to the north were detoured to take Longmeadow Parkway west to Huntley Road and south to Randall Road.
Motorists to the south were detoured to take Huntley Road west to Longmeadow Parkway and east to Randall Road.
The Carpentersville Police Department said around the same time that officers were on the scene in the 1200 block of Navajo Drive in Carpentersville investigating a shooting.
The scene was secure and there was no ongoing threat to the public as of 12:45 a.m. Thursday.
“Please avoid the area to allow emergency responders to work safely. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available,” the department said in a statement.
Police officials for both agencies told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the two scenes in both towns were related.
Carpentersville Deputy Police Chief Kevin Stankowitz said the victims from the shooting on Navajo Drive left the scene and were ultimately found and treated at Randall Road and Longmeadow Parkway in Algonquin.
Both directions of Randall Road were reopened around 1:30 a.m. with one northbound lane remaining closed until around 4:30 a.m.
The Carpentersville Police Department said they anticipate releasing more details on the incident soon.
