A 21-year-old man was hospitalized with serious injuries after a car swerved into oncoming traffic and crashed into his motorcycle near Barrington, police said.
The Barrington-Countryside Fire Protection District and Inverness Police Department responded around 7:30 p.m. Monday to the area of Bradwell Road and Barrington Road in Barrington Township, on the border of Inverness and unincorporated Barrington, for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Fire crews arrived and reported a car with moderate damage and a motorcycle down. Two ambulances were called to the scene.
The Barrington Police Department, Cook County Sheriff’s Office and Barrington Hills Police Department also responded to assist.
Inverness Chief of Police Kyle Ingebrigtsen said the crash involved a Honda Civic and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
An investigation showed that the Honda was traveling northbound on Barrington Road.
The Honda’s tires veered off the roadway and the driver overcorrected, Ingebrigtsen said.
The Honda crossed into the southbound lanes and into the path of an oncoming Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
The motorcycle collided with the passenger side of the Honda.
Ingebrigtsen said the motorcyclist, a 21-year-old man, suffered significant but non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Honda, a 25-year-old man, suffered minor injuries.
Both drivers were transported to Ascension St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates by ambulance.
The driver of the Honda was cited for improper lane usage, Ingebrigtsen said.
Police shut down both directions of traffic on Barrington Road for at least an hour during the investigation and until the vehicles were removed by tow trucks.
