Residents were left displaced after a fire broke out and damaged a garage and a townhome, prompting multiple fire departments to respond, in Lake Zurich Saturday morning.
The Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department responded around 7:07 a.m. Saturday to the 100 block of Rosehall Drive in Lake Zurich for a report of a structure fire.
A 911 caller reported that the garage of a townhome was on fire and an evacuation was in progress.
Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department Fire Chief David Pilgard said firefighters arrived in three minutes and found an active fire in the garage.
The townhomes were evacuated and everyone was accounted for.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within 5-10 minutes, Pilgard said.
The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to the box alarm level to bring additional fire departments to the scene.
No injuries were reported to any residents or firefighters.
Pilgard said the townhome unit was deemed uninhabitable due to the extent of damage.
The fire department was working with a board-up company, the insurance company and the residents.
Fire investigators are working to determine what caused the fire.
Neighboring townhome units experienced some smoke inside from the fire, Pilgard said.
Fire crews ventilated the smoke and performed air quality monitoring to ensure the homes were safe for occupancy.
The fire was the second structure fire within hours that the Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department responded to on Saturday morning after firefighters extinguished a garage fire at a home on Barberry Drive in Hawthorn Woods around 12:30 a.m.
