One person was hospitalized after they were left trapped and had to be extricated from their car that rolled over during a vehicle crash on Route 41 in Lake Forest Sunday morning.
The Lake Forest Fire Department and Lake Forest Police Department responded around 11:24 a.m. Sunday to the area of Route 41 and Westleigh Road in Lake Forest for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Multiple bystanders called 911 to report the crash and initial reports indicated entrapment in one of the vehicles.
Lake Forest Fire Department Battalion Chief Andrew Allan said fire crews arrived to find a two-vehicle crash with heavy damage at the intersection.
One car was rolled over onto its side, resting against the median along Route 41 at the north side of the intersection.
Firefighters found an adult male who was trapped in the rolled-over vehicle, Allan said.
Allan said additional fire crews were called to the scene to assist with stabilizing the vehicle and extricating the trapped victim, which took approximately 15 minutes.
A Countryside Fire Protection District ambulance was called to stand by at one of Lake Forest’s fire stations during the incident.
No other people were inside the rolled-over vehicle besides the driver, who was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Allan said.
The other car involved came to rest upright and its adult driver was not trapped and was uninjured.
Police shut down northbound Route 41 from Westleigh Road to Route 60.
Heavy traffic was reported in the southbound lanes on Route 41 during the incident.
The Lake Forest Police Department was investigating the cause of the crash.
