An elderly man was seriously injured after falling from a roof at a home in Marengo and had to be flown to the hospital by a helicopter that landed at Marengo High School on Monday.

The Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts responded around 2:01 p.m. Monday to the 1100 block of Foxglove Lane in Marengo for a report of a person who had fallen.

Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said paramedics arrived within minutes to find an elderly male victim.

The man was in the rear of the residence and had fallen approximately 10 feet from the roof.

A medical helicopter was requested due to the extent of his injuries and age, Vucha said.

A landing zone was set up at the soccer fields at Marengo Community High School.

Vucha said an ambulance transported him to the landing zone and a Mercyhealth REACT medical helicopter landed in the field.

The victim was transferred to the helicopter and airlifted to Javon Bea Hospital Riverside in Rockford with serious injuries.

“The Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts greatly appreciated the coordination and assistance provided by the Marengo Police Department during this incident,” Vucha said.
