A man suffered minor injuries and had to be extricated from his car after it rolled over, resulting in major damage, on Hunt Club Road near Gurnee, the sheriff said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Gurnee Fire Department responded around 1:50 p.m. Friday to the area of Hunt Club Road and Ancona Avenue in unincorporated Gurnee.

A 911 caller reported a single-vehicle crash involving a rollover.

Fire crews arrived and found a car that had rolled over onto its side and was off the roadway.

They found that the driver was trapped in the car and performed extrication to free him within 10 minutes.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said the 2008 Scion HD sustained major rollover damage.

A preliminary investigation showed the driver of the Scion, a 69-year-old Bristol, Wisconsin man, was traveling northbound on Hunt Club Road.

The driver said there was an object in the roadway that he could not identify.

He said he swerved to avoid it and the Scion left the roadway on the right shoulder, Covelli said.

The driver then overcorrected and the Scion crossed into the southbound lane of traffic.

Covelli said the vehicle entered the grassy field on the west side of the road and rolled over.

Paramedics evaluated the driver, who suffered minor injuries. He declined transport to the hospital.

The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle and no citations were issued as he was the only vehicle involved, Covelli said.
