A 57-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly tried to lure a young girl riding her bicycle to sit on his lap and kiss him while he was outside a business on the Woodstock Square.
John R. Luna, 57, of Woodstock, was charged with grooming, a Class 4 felony, and two counts of disorderly conduct, a Class C misdemeanor.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges Luna committed the offense of grooming around 1:45 p.m. on Saturday.
Luna was sitting outside of Liquid Blues, 126 North Benton Street in Woodstock, on the Judd Street side of the business, the complaint said.
A victim, who is under the age of 15, was passing by Luna on her bicycle.
Luna allegedly told the child to come over to him and give him kisses, the complaint said.
The complaint said Luna tapped his lap with his hand and motioned for the child to come sit on his lap.
The complaint said the victim, as well as a second child, were alarmed and disturbed by his actions.
The Woodstock Police Department responded and arrested Luna. He was transported to the McHenry County Jail.
The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain Luna pending trial, arguing he poses a real and present danger to the community.
McHenry County Judge Cynthia Lamb denied the petition and released Luna from custody following a detention hearing on Monday.
Luna was ordered to have no contact with any children and refrain from going to schools, parks, amusement parks and places where alcohol is primarily served.
He was also ordered not to consume illegal drugs or alcohol, be affixed with an alcohol monitoring device and submit to random testing, as well as be placed on pre-trial supervision.
Luna is scheduled to appear in court again on September 17 for a status of preliminary hearing.
