A worker suffered severe injuries and was flown to the hospital after becoming entangled in industrial equipment at a business in Round Lake Friday evening.
The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded around 5:13 p.m. Friday to North Shore Paving, 707 Valentin Drive in Round Lake, for an emergency call.
Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Jay VandeBerg said a 911 call was received reporting a person trapped in a machine.
Fire and rescue crews arrived to find an adult male worker who was seriously injured, VandeBerg said.
The worker was entangled in a piece of industrial equipment when fire crews arrived.
VandeBerg said that additional fire department resources, along with a medical helicopter, were requested to the scene due to the complexity of the incident.
Paramedics provided medical care through the extrication process to the victim.
VandeBerg said specialized tools and techniques were used and rescue crews successfully extricated the worker at 5:48 p.m.
The LifeNet medical helicopter landed across the street in an open grass field.
The victim was transferred to the helicopter and flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with severe injuries.
VandeBerg said further details regarding the circumstances of how the worker became trapped were not available.
The incident is being investigated by the Round Lake Police Department.
