A suspect was taken into custody after he allegedly attacked a woman, leading to a standoff in Algonquin where a heavy police response and a SWAT team were sent Sunday evening.
The Algonquin Police Department responded around 6:50 p.m. Sunday to the 300 block of Diamondback Way in Algonquin for a report of a domestic disturbance.
Algonquin Deputy Police Chief Timothy Cooney said officers identified the offender in the domestic battery as Kyle S. Goltz, 35, of Algonquin.
Cooney said Goltz refused to cooperate with officers at the scene and additional law enforcement agencies were requested.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Multi-Jurisdictional SWAT Team also responded to the scene.
The Algonquin Police Department called the incident “isolated” and said residents in the area may notice the heavy police presence.
“We want to emphasize that there is no threat to the public related to this incident,” the department said Sunday evening.
The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District was staged nearby as a precaution.
“Through the use of de-escalation tactics and other sound policing strategies, officers were able to safely bring the incident to a resolution,” Cooney said.
Goltz ultimately exited the residence and was taken into custody without further incident.
The incident was resolved by around 8:30 p.m.
Goltz was charged with one count of aggravated domestic battery by strangulation, a Class 2 felony, and two counts of domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
He was transported to the Kane County Jail where he remains held pending a detention hearing, records show.
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office has filed a petition to detain Goltz pending trial.
