A teenage boy was critically injured after he lost control of his car and it rolled over, leaving him trapped inside, on Interstate 90 near Huntley, authorities said.

The Huntley Fire Protection District and Illinois State Police (ISP) responded around 8:50 p.m. Saturday to Interstate 90 at the 42.75 mile marker between Huntley and Hampshire.

Fire crews were dispatched initially for a report of a car fire and then for a report of a vehicle crash.

A 911 caller reported that the vehicle’s tire flew off and hit a concrete rail before bursting into flames.

Firefighters arrived to find a heavily damaged vehicle, which was not on fire, off the roadway in the ditch.

Firefighters quickly extricated the driver from the car and transported him to a trauma center.

An ISP spokesperson said the crash occurred in the westbound lanes near Route 20.
