Three people were transported to the hospital for injuries after a three-vehicle crash that resulted in a vehicle rolling over multiple times on Route 31 in McHenry.
The McHenry Township Fire Protection District and McHenry Police Department responded around 12:30 p.m. Friday to the area of Route 31 and Bull Valley Road in McHenry for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
911 callers reported a three-vehicle crash with a victim possibly trapped inside one of the cars.
The fire department called three ambulances to the scene to transport three victims, according to McHenry Township Fire Protection District Battalion Chief David Harwood.
Harwood said the cars sustained moderate to heavy damage.
One of the vehicles involved was parked in the used car lot on the southeast side of the intersection.
The three adult victims suffered minor injuries, Harwood said, adding that no extrication was required.
McHenry Police Department Public Affairs Officer Ashley O’Herron said one of the three vehicles involved had rolled over upside down.
Two of the three vehicles had to be towed from the scene due to the extent of damage.
One of the drivers was issued a citation for not having valid vehicle registration, O’Herron said.
Amy Campbell, who was driving a white minivan that was involved, said she had a guardian angel watching over.
“I walked away from this with little to no injuries and in emotional distress for sure. Needless to say I feel like I was hit by a Mack truck and can’t believe I am alive, this was the scariest thing and I remember all of it,” Campbell said.
She said her van rolled over multiple times and hit the parked car as well as a fire hydrant after she was rear-ended.
The male driver is believed to have had a medical emergency leading to the crash, Campbell said.
A witness said she was almost hit by the car that caused the crash and that driver is believed to have suffered a seizure. The van involved rolled over “so many times,” she added.
