Three people were injured and one person was airlifted in critical condition following a crash in Crystal Lake early Friday, officials said.
Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Richard Neumann said Crystal Lake Police and Fire/Rescue responded to Crystal Ridge Drive and Carmella Drive for the report of a single vehicle crash involving injuries at 12:52 a.m. early Friday morning.
Neumann said the preliminary investigation revealed a Toyota pickup truck was driving westbound on Crystal Ridge Drive at a high rate of speed when it left its lane of travel and struck a tree.
The driver of the vehicle was airlifted from the scene and remains in critical condition at the hospital, Neumann said.
One of the passengers in the vehicle was also airlifted from the scene and is listed in stable condition, Neumann said.
A third person and a second passenger of the vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported via ambulance to a local hospital.
A portion of Crystal Ridge Drive was shut down for approximately three hours while emergency personnel worked the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Harrison G. Pellikan, 23, of Crystal Lake, has been charged with Class A misdemeanor counts of DUI and DUI with BAC over .08, as well as petty traffic offenses of failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, transportation or possession of alcoholic liquor in a motor vehicle, and not wearing a seat belt.
Neumann said the incident remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Police Department and anyone with additional information should call the Crystal Lake Police Department at (815) 356-3620.
