Two Lake County men have been arrested and charged in connection with an attack on a person from Fox Lake in mid-August, authorities said.
Fox Lake Police were called to a business in the 800 block of West Grand Avenue in Fox Lake at 12:24 p.m. on August 11 after a 911 caller reported a battery, officials said.
When officers from the Fox Lake Police Department arrived on scene, the 33-year-old victim was found sitting at an outside table with extensive injuries, officials said.
Fox Lake Fire Prevention District personnel transported the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment, officials said.
After a thorough investigation, Detectives with the Fox Lake Police Department determined the victim was followed into the bathroom at the business and attacked by 46-year-old Joseph D. Abbott, of Antioch.
After the attack, Abbott and Noah D. Argiewicz, of Fox Lake, attempted to intimidate a person trying to call 911 by pounding on a door and attempting to force entry into the bathroom where they had locked themselves in.
The two then left the scene, officials said.
Following an investigation, arrest warrants were issued for Abbott and Argiewicz and approved by the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office on August 22, officials said.
Abbot was charged with Class 3 felony counts of Aggravated Battery Causing Great Bodily Harm, a Class 3 felony count of Aggravated Battery in a Public Place, and a Class 4 count of Mob Action.
Argiewicz is charged with a single Class 4 felony count of Mob Action and a misdemeanor count of Aggravated Assault in a Public Place.
Argiewicz was taken into custody by Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies in the early morning hours of August 27 and appeared in First Appearance Court at 10:00 a.m. Friday.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a detention request, which was later denied. He was subsequently released on pre-trial conditions by a Lake County Judge with a future court date of September 23.
Abbott turned himself in to the Lake County Jail in the early morning hours of August 29.
He is due to appear in First Appearance Court at a later date, police said, adding the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office is expected to file a detention order to have Abbott held at the Lake County Jail until trial.
