A Deer Park man has been charged with reckless homicide for his role in a two-vehicle crash that killed an 89-year-old Palatine woman in Barrington earlier this year.
Abraham N. Katz, 37, of Deer Park, was charged with a Class 3 felony count of reckless homicide for his role in the crash that killed Lois J. Larson, 89, of Palatine, authorities said.
Police from the Barrington Police Department responded to a two-vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection of South Barrington Road and Dundee Road at 12:13 p.m. on March 30.
An investigation into the crash revealed that Katz was traveling northbound on South Barrington Road in a Hyundai sedan, authorities said.
At the same time, the Honda driven by Larson was traveling southbound on South Barrington Road and entered the left-turn lane at the intersection with Dundee Road.
As Larson initiated a left turn, Katz’s vehicle struck her vehicle’s passenger side in a T-Bone style collision, authorities said.
Witnesses told police that the traffic signal was green for northbound and southbound traffic on Barrington Road, police said.
Both drivers were transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital with injuries.
Due to the severity of Larson’s injuries, the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was activated to assist in the investigation.
Larson died on May 24 due to the injuries she sustained in the crash, authorities said.
After a thorough investigation and analysis of evidence recovered from the vehicles involved and due to the high rate of speed Katz was traveling, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved one count of reckless homicide against Katz.
Katz was due to appear for a detention hearing at the Circuit Court of Cook County’s Third Municipal District in Rolling Meadows Friday.
