A Lake County man is charged after being intoxicated and driving 117 miles per hour down Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville moments before causing a crash that injured his girlfriend, court records show.
Anthony Brown, 47, is charged with felony counts of aggravated DUI and driving on a revoked license for the August 9 crash at Route 21 and Casey Street, authorities said.
According to a petition filed in Lake County Circuit Court, Libertyville Police were called to a single-car crash on Route 21 at Casey Road and found Brown in the vehicle with his girlfriend and her 12-year-old child.
Prosecutors said Brown was heading southbound on Route 21 when he tried to turn right onto Casey Street.
He lost control of the vehicle due to the speed he was driving, slid into oncoming traffic, and crashed his car into a guard rail, prosecutors said.
The girlfiend received a laceration on her head due to the crash, prosecutors said. The minor child escaped serious injuries.
The girlfriend had the app Life360 on her phone, prosecutors said, which estimated the speed Brown was driving was 117 mph before the accident, prosecutors said.
After the crash, authorities observed the defendant had trouble maintaining his balance and had a strong odor of alcohol, prosecutors said.
The defendant was transported from the scene to Condell Hospital shortly after deputies arrived. Charges were filed against him after his release from the hospital.
Brown was charged with felony counts of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and driving on a revoked license, as well as a misdemeanor charge of speeding 35 MPH over posted speed limits, and citations for improper turn, failure to reduce speed, and driving too fast for conditions.
The latest charges came while Brown was free from Lake County jail for a domestic dispute in April, authorities said.
Brown was arrested in April on two counts of domestic battery and a misdemeanor count of obstructing a peace officer, court records show.
He was initially detained in Lake County jail pending trial, but was released from jail in May for unknown reasons, court records show.
At the time of his release, a judge ordered Brown not to consume alcohol, cannabis, or illegal substances, prosecutors said.
Because of the new charges and the crash, Lake County Judge Christopher Lombardo revoked Browns release from jail and ordered Brown detained until trial.
Brown is due back in court on September 3.
