An elderly man and his toddler grandson were hospitalized after they were struck by a vehicle while crossing Route 176 in Green Oaks Sunday afternoon, the sheriff said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Libertyville Fire Department responded around 12:43 p.m. Sunday to the area of Route 176 and Ashford Drive in Green Oaks for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said the crash occurred along Route 176, also known as Rockland Road, involving a vehicle and two pedestrians.
A preliminary investigation showed a 59-year-old Green Oaks man, driving a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado, was attempting to turn westbound onto Rockland Road.
The Chevrolet struck a 65-year-old Green Oaks man and his 3-year-old grandson, Covelli said.
The two pedestrians were crossing the road at the time of the collision.
Covelli said the crash occurred near the southwest corner of Bayonne Avenue and Rockland Road where there is no crosswalk.
Both victims were transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center with minor injuries.
The driver is cooperating with the investigation and impairment does not appear to be a factor, Covelli said.
No citations or charges have been announced and the crash remains under investigation.
