A worker was seriously injured after he was struck by a lawnmower while a crew was working at a residential home near Huntley, the third such lawnmower incident in the area in days.

The Huntley Fire Protection District responded around 10:42 p.m. Tuesday to the 2500 block of Hennig Road in unincorporated Hampshire, south of Huntley, for a report of a fall victim.

Paramedics arrived within minutes and located an adult male who had been working as part of a landscaping crew, according to Huntley Fire Protection District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha.

It was learned he had not fallen but had instead suffered a traumatic injury.

Vucha said the man had a serious leg laceration after being struck by a lawnmower.

The bleeding had been controlled prior to paramedics’ arrival through the use of direct pressure.

Paramedics continued patient care at the scene, monitored his condition and prepared him for transport, Vucha said.

The man was transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin for additional care due to the severity of the injury.

The Huntley Fire Protection District said it reminds residents and workers that significant injuries can occur even during routine tasks.

The fire district said they encourage continued caution when using power equipment.

The incident was at least the third incident involving a lawnmower in the past week in the McHenry County area.
