Officials said an intoxicated man tried to bribe people to drive him away after he crashed his Porsche on Route 45 in unincorporated Antioch Friday evening, before running away and being apprehended by a Lake County Sheriff’s K-9.
Teaford B. Holland, 46, of unincorporated Antioch, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless conduct and various traffic infractions.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Antioch Fire Department responded around 10:55 p.m. Friday to the area of Route 45 and Pedersen Drive in unincorporated Antioch for a vehicle crash.
Emergency responders arrived and found a grey Porsche sedan with major damage in a field northeast of the intersection, Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said.
The vehicle had struck a fence and an embankment.
Witnesses reported the driver – later identified as Holland – exited his Porsche and offered them money to drive him away from the scene, Covelli said.
The witnesses refused the offer, and Holland allegedly fled on foot, leaving his passenger, a 21-year-old woman, behind.
An investigation revealed that Holland was traveling southbound on Route 45 at a high rate of speed before losing control of his Porsche, driving off the roadway, and crashing, Covelli added.
Deputies established a perimeter around the nearby Hickory Woods subdivision with the help of Antioch police officers and Lake County Sheriff’s K-9 Simba and his handler Deputy Christopher Sinceno.
Drones were also deployed to scour the area for Holland.
K-9 Simba quickly found Holland’s scent and tracked him into the woods near Tammi Terrace and Pedersen Drive.
Holland was arrested without incident just before midnight.
Paramedics evaluated both Holland and his 21-year-old passenger and neither was injured, Covelli said.
Holland was processed at the Lake County Jail and was released.
He is scheduled to appear in court on October 15.
