One person received multiple injuries and was hospitalized after the mini-bike he was driving hit a minivan performing a U-turn in Waukegan, police officials said.

Waukegan Police responded to a report of a crash at Glen Flora and Lorraine avenues at 8:21 pm Monday for a crash with injuries, said Deputy Police Chief Craig Neal.

Brian Gaca Perez, 27, of Waukegan, was driving an Xpro Storm mini dirt bike westbound on Glen Flora when it hit a 2012 Honda Odyssey minivan at Lorraine, Neal said.

The minivan was traveling westbound on Glen Flora when it attempted to make a U-turn at Lorraine, Neal said.

The mini dirt bike was not equipped with headlights, Neal said, and the driver of the minivan said he didn’t see the mini dirt bike despite checking both directions of traffic before making the U-turn.

The minivan was struck on the driver’s side rear door, Neal said.

The minivan received moderate damage due to the crash, Neal said. The mini bike was totaled.

The driver and passenger of the minivan reported no injuries, Neal said.

The driver of the mini dirt bike sustained injuries to his face, head, and arm as a result of the accident. He was taken to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan in serious condition. He was treated and later released, Neal said.

Perez received citations for improper lane usage and driving without a headlight, Neal said.
