An elderly man was flown to the hospital with serious injuries after he was run over by a tractor and was not discovered for hours near Marengo Sunday afternoon.

The Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 2:24 p.m. Sunday to the 6500 block of Maple Street in unincorporated Marengo.

Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said a patient was reported to have suffered traumatic injury involving farm machinery.

Firefighters and paramedics arrived within minutes and located the elderly male victim.

He had been run over by a tractor a couple of hours prior but was just discovered by family members, Vucha said.

The man was alert but had suffered serious injuries, prompting a request for a medical helicopter. He was not trapped under the tractor.

Vucha said a LifeNet medical helicopter responded and landed in the soccer field at Marengo Community High School.

An ambulance transported the man to the landing zone and he was transferred to the helicopter.

He was then airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, which is a Level 1 trauma center, for further treatment.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
