A man was transported to the hospital after he crashed his ATV into an electrical box and caused a power outage in a neighborhood near Woodstock, fire officials said.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 6:19 p.m. Sunday to the 4400 block of Billingsgate Lane in unincorporated Woodstock for a report of an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) crash.
Fire crews arrived and found an ATV that had struck an electrical utility box, according to Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha.
The crash resulted in damage to both the vehicle and the equipment.
Vucha said the impact also resulted in a temporary power outage in the surrounding area.
ComEd responded to assess and repair the damaged utility equipment.
The adult male rider of the ATV suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
“This incident serves as an important reminder about the need for safety precautions when operating off-road vehicles,” Vucha said.
“Helmets and other protective equipment can make a significant difference in reducing the severity of injuries in the event of a crash,” he added.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances of the crash. It is unclear what led to the crash.
