A teenager has died after authorities say he was critically injured when he lost control of his car and it rolled over along Interstate 94 near Deerfield early Thursday morning.

The Illinois State Police responded around 4:42 a.m. Thursday to Interstate 94 at mile marker 25.5 between Northbrook and Deerfield for a vehicle crash with unknown injuries.

Troopers arrived and reported finding a gray Toyota off the roadway in the right ditch.

The driver was unconscious and not breathing and troopers started CPR on him.

The Northbrook Fire Department responded to the scene and paramedics transported the victim to Endeavor Health Highland Park Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

An Illinois State Police spokesperson said the driver was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital. One lane on the Edens Spur was closed during the crash investigation.

The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle and no other cars were involved in the crash, the spokesperson said.

Officials said the driver lost control of the Toyota and drove approximately 30 feet off the roadway, resulting in the car rolling over.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to Endeavor Health Highland Park Hospital and took possession of the victim.

Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton said the victim, an 18-year-old Chicago man, was pronounced in the emergency room.

An autopsy was performed on the man on Thursday but his identity has not been released yet.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
