The coroner has released the identity of an 18-year-old man who died after authorities say he lost control of his car and it rolled over along Interstate 94 near Deerfield Thursday morning.
An autopsy performed Thursday showed Angelo Gomez-Suarez, 18, of Chicago, died as a result of blunt force injuries to the chest and abdomen, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.
The Illinois State Police responded around 4:42 a.m. Thursday to Interstate 94 at mile marker 25.5 between Northbrook and Deerfield for a vehicle crash with unknown injuries.
Troopers arrived and reported finding a gray Toyota off the roadway in the right ditch.
The driver, Gomez-Suarez, was unconscious and not breathing and troopers started CPR on him.
The Northbrook Fire Department responded to the scene and paramedics transported Gomez-Suarez to Endeavor Health Highland Park Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
An Illinois State Police spokesperson said Gomez-Suarez was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital. One lane on the Edens Spur was closed during the crash investigation.
Gomez-Suarez was the sole occupant of the vehicle and no other cars were involved in the crash, the spokesperson said.
Officials said Gomez-Suarez lost control of the Toyota and drove approximately 30 feet off the roadway, resulting in the car rolling over.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to Endeavor Health Highland Park Hospital and took possession of the victim.
Banek said Gomez-Suarez was pronounced in the emergency room.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
